Pet Lives Matter in Malaysia

Gold Coin Sarawak (Malaysia) continues its partnership with the Sarawak Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SSPCA) with more animal welfare initiatives. On April 8, 2024, members of Gold Coin Malaysia, led by Teo Seng Leong, Assistant Vice President for Business Operations – East Malaysia, turned over a repurposed truck van to SSPCA.

When Gold Coin first teamed up with SSPCA in late 2021, they noticed that the animal welfare organization lacked a vehicle for transporting animals in their care. As a result, Gold Coin donated a refurbished truck van to SSPCA. This vehicle will make it more convenient for SSPCA to transport their animals to the veterinary clinic safely, and can also be used to get pet food and supplies.

“As Gold Coin Malaysia continues our partnership with SSPCA, we remain committed to supporting their mission of providing care for animals in need,” said Leong.

In September 2022, Gold Coin Malaysia and the SSPCA signed a Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate on initiatives benefiting stray animals.

For a Greener Tomorrow in Zhuhai

In addition to upholding animal welfare, Gold Coin Zhuhai (GCZH) team members participated in a tree planting activity in Nanshui Town, Jinwan District in Zhuhai, China.

In response to the voluntary tree planting initiative of the local government of Nanshui town, GCZH donated CNY 10,000 worth of saplings. Several GCZH team members, headed by Shao Zhi Gang, GCZH Mill General Manager, planted the saplings last February 27, 2024, at Nanshui Town.

Team members of GCZH planted saplings worth CNY 10,000 in the tree planting initiative at Nanshui Town.

As Gold Coin continues its purpose of sustainably feeding Asia’s growth from mill to meal, it prioritizes not only human welfare but also the environmental conversation and animal welfare.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q1. What is this article about?
This article covers two distinct green initiatives carried out by Gold Coin operations in Malaysia and China. In Malaysia, Gold Coin Sarawak donated a refurbished truck van to the Sarawak Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SSPCA) to support animal transport. In China, Gold Coin Zhuhai contributed CNY 10,000 worth of saplings and participated in a community tree planting event in Nanshui Town – together reflecting a multi-country commitment to environmental and animal welfare responsibility.

Q2. What is the nature of Gold Coin Sarawak’s partnership with SSPCA?
Gold Coin Sarawak and the SSPCA first partnered in late 2021, with a formal Memorandum of Understanding signed in September 2022. The collaboration focuses on initiatives that benefit stray animals, combining financial and in-kind support. The truck van donation in April 2024 is the latest milestone in this ongoing relationship, enabling SSPCA to transport animals safely to veterinary clinics and collect pet food and supplies more efficiently.

Q3. Why was the truck van donation significant for the SSPCA?
When Gold Coin first engaged with SSPCA, it identified a critical operational gap – the organization had no dedicated vehicle for transporting animals in their care. A purpose-fitted transport vehicle is essential for an animal welfare organization, enabling timely veterinary access and supply runs. By donating a refurbished van, Gold Coin addressed a genuine logistical need that directly improves the day-to-day welfare of animals under SSPCA’s protection.

Q4. What did Gold Coin Zhuhai do for environmental conservation in China?
In response to a voluntary tree planting initiative by the local government of Nanshui Town in Jinwan District, Zhuhai, Gold Coin Zhuhai donated CNY 10,000 worth of saplings. Team members, led by Mill General Manager Shao Zhi Gang, participated directly in the planting on February 27, 2024. The act of hands-on participation alongside the financial contribution signals genuine community engagement rather than passive corporate giving.

Q5. What are the key takeaways from these initiatives?
The two initiatives together show that sustainability commitments within a single organization can span animal welfare, environmental conservation, and community collaboration simultaneously. Both actions are grounded in identified needs rather than symbolic gestures – one addressing an operational gap for an animal welfare body, the other responding to a local government environmental call. This multi-front approach reinforces that meaningful corporate responsibility extends well beyond core business operations.
